Slow Sunday | an evening of Yin Yoga

Why Yin Yoga?

Wellbeing (whether physical, mental or emotional) requires balance, balance between activity and rest, movement and stillness, external and internal awareness.

Within the Chinese / Doaist tradition this is reflected in balancing the opposing qualities of Yin and Yang. For example balancing:

Yang qualities (e.g. movement, speed, striving, engaging, doing, action)

with

Yin qualities (e.g. stillness, slowness, accepting, softening, being, reflecting)

For many of us, however, modern life can feel dominated by ‘yang’ qualities. This can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and our inner experience, exhausted from constant activity and stimulation.

Yin Yoga is a beautiful, still form of yoga that re-dresses this balance - allowing us space to drop into a quieter more reflective state that can be lacking in busy lives.

In this largely floor-based practice, we use props to support the body for prolonged periods of time (between 3-6 minutes), encouraging softness without strain.

Within the stillness we have time to reconnect to ourselves, meeting ourselves with a patient, accepting compassionate awareness where insights can arise about how we feel and what we need moment by moment. We can then return to our everyday lives with a little more energy, clarity and ease.

What to bring?

In setting up your space please gather the following props
