Candle-lit Yin Yoga

Gift yourself space to slow, still, and soften with the beautiful practice of Yin Yoga.

In-person at Yoga On The Lane, Dalston

Feeling our best requires finding a balance between effort and ease, activity and rest, movement and stillness, being open to the world, and having time to drop quietly back in towards ourselves.

Within the Chinese / Daoist tradition this is reflected in balancing qualities of Yin and Yang. Yang energy is found in the energy of movement, doing, action and engaging. Yin energy is found in stillness, slowness, softening, times of quiet reflection.

While both are needed, modern life can feel dominated by ‘yang’ energy (the doing, the striving, seeking activity and outcomes) while struggling to balance this with moments of stillness, softness, rest and reflection.  This can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and our inner experience, exhausted from constant activity and stimulation.

Yin Yoga is a beautiful form of yoga that redresses this balance. In this largely floor-based practice, we use props to support the body at point of stretch for prolonged periods of time (between 3-6 minutes), encouraging softness without strain.

Within the stillness we have time to reconnect to ourselves, meeting ourselves with a patient, accepting compassionate awareness where insights can arise about how we feel and what we need moment by moment. We can then return to our everyday lives with a little more energy, clarity and ease.

Join Anna Taylor for this evening of candle-lit yin, to slow, still and soften. Open to all levels. The studio has all the props that you need, just bring yourself and some warm, comfortable clothing.
