exploring the chakras - creating balance within

Saturday 7 November | 14.00 - 17.00 | Clerkenwellbeing, EC1V 7DT

Whilst we readily acknowledge our physical bodies, the notion of a more subtle, energetic body can be harder to connect to. In yoga however it is taken that there are five layers (or 'sheeths') of body: our physical body, our energetic body, our mind/mental body, deeper wisdom body and bliss body.

Through this workshop we will dive deeper into the subtle energetic body, in particular exploring the 7 major chakras (or energy centres) that reside within it. We will examin the varying locations and characteristics of the chakras and the ways and signs that they can become imbalanced.  Through pranayama (breath-work), flowing asana (postures), meditation, manta (sound vibration) and deep relaxation we will discover yoga practices that balance each chakra and restore balance within.

Places are £30 and open to all levels.

embracing quiet - a yin & restorative yoga workshop

Saturday 6 April | 14.00 - 17.00 | The Life Centre, Islington, N1 8QH

Eastern traditions recognise that true wellbeing comes from balancing the opposing energies of yin (calm and cooling) and yang (energetic and fiery). Modern, city culture which often promotes striving and acheiving over resting and reflecting can make this balance hard to achieve.

This workshop will seek to redress the balance. In the initial yin practice (a largely floor-based practice - not a downward dog in sight!) poses are held for 3 minutes or longer allowing muscles and connective tissues to gradually release. We will then drop into deeper stillness through restorative poses. With the body supported by props, but before the edge of stretch our nervous system can drop into a deep relaxation so we return to our lives a little more balanced, revived and refreshed.

Places are £35. Open to all levels.

rising from a firm foundation

saturday 15 july | 14.45 - 17.45 | Yoga On The Lane, E8 2EB

To build anything sustainably we first need to create a steady foundation. When life becomes busy or challenging, however, our sense of stability can be the first thing we lose. At times like this we can use our practice to root into the grounding energies of the earth; tapping into its support and nourishment, to rise again from a firmer foundation.

This workshop will explore how we can use grounding practices to enhance our lives, both on and off the mat. We will combine a steady, calm, flowing practice, with pranayama (breathwork), mindful meditation, and close with a luxurious deep relaxation.

" The inclusive and supportive environment that Anna created meant that the sessions felt very authentic and participants were able to offer reflections and ask questions in a very safe space. I really enjoyed the very practical structure of the course and the variety of meditations explored as well as the poems and readings from other teachers. I would recommend this course to anyone curious about mindfulness and what it could offer, as well as to anyone (like me!) who would like a refresher or a new lease of life into their practice. " - Fay

" I really enjoyed the course and learnt a lot, both about meditation and myself. The balance of practice, teaching and discussion was just right. After six weeks I have already starting seeing some beneficial changes alongside a better understanding  of myself and my reactions. Anna was a brilliant teacher and guide, knowledgeable, helpful and kind." - Elinor

mindfulness in motion

Saturday 4 August| 15.00 - 18.00 | Yoga On The Lane, E8 2EB

Mindfulness invites us to bring our full awareness to our present moment experience - opening up to ourselves with a gentle, caring attention. Through cultivating qualities such as compassion, curiosity, acceptance and non-judgment our yoga practice becomes a setting for self-inquiry rather than another vehicle for striving and achieving.

In this way it becomes a refuge for us within our busy lives; a space where we can check in with how we are and recognise what we need; a space where we can notice patterns of behaviour that are and aren't serving us well. From this greater awareness and sense of kindness we can make wiser choices both on and off the mat.

This workshop will outline the key qualities of mindful awareness. We will then explore how we can embody them in both movement and stillness throughout our yoga practice.

Places are £30. Open to all levels.

therapeutic yoga for stress and fatigue

saturday 19 may | 15.00 - 18.00 | Yoga On The Lane, E8 2EB

Stress affects us all at points in our lives. Whilst short bursts of stress can be necessary to stimulate and activate us, operating in this mode over long periods of time simply depletes us. When suffering with stress we can feel a huge tiredness in our bodies but spinning activity in our minds which make the rest that we crave hard to access.

This workshop will explore what happens in our bodies when we get stressed and yoga tools that we can reach for to restore a sense of calm and access deep rest. The session will incorporate the gentle but powerful 'pawanmuktasana' joint-releasing series which will ease tension from tip to toe allowing energy to flow freely but calmly through the body again. Once the body has found some ease and the mind has found some calm we will drop into restorative stillness to soak up deep rest.

Places are £30. Open to all. No experience of yoga necessary.
